The Greater Columbia Chapter of the

American Guild of Organists presents

WHEN? Saturday, October 19, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

with pizza from 12:00 to 12:30.

WHERE? Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

1512 Blanding Street; Columbia SC 29201

WHO IS INVITED? Anyone, young or old, who wants

to learn about pipe organs.

What are all of those pipes for? How does the organ make all of those different sounds? Stephen Spake of Lincoln Pipe Organs will help us answer these questions and more using Good Shepherd’s beautiful Petty-Madden mechanical action pipe organ.  Then he’ll help our younger attendees build a small pipe organ from a kit. They can bring a short piece of music to try out on the instruments. There will be pizza for everyone at noon. We hope you can join us for a fun morning of learning!

* Stephen Spake began his career as a full time tuning and maintenance technician, developing his skills as an organ builder by rebuilding and redesigning instruments of all types and makes. Stephen has been with John Dower and Company (now Lincoln Pipe Organs, Inc.) for 20 years, and continues his career of building and maintaining these wonderful instruments. He is devoted to helping young people develop an understanding of and interest in pipe organs.

Stephen Spake and Lincoln Pipe Organs restored and installed our own beautiful Schlicker pipe organ!  If you are interested in attending this event, please let Laura know at (803) 238-4342 or email at

Our 5th Sunday Hymn Sing and Pot Luck Dinners have become a hit!  Every 5th Sunday, we meet in the Sanctuary at 5:00pm to "take requests" for your favorite hymns.  At 6:00pm, we have dinner together in the fellowship hall.  Depending on the time of year, it may be a fine Lutheran potluck meal, a cook out, or "holiday meal" in December.  Come and join your friends and church family and "sing for your supper!" Dinner is free and all are welcome!

The upcoming schedule for 2019-2020 is below.  Hymn Sing starts at 5:00pm and dinner starts at 6:00pm.  We look forward to seeing you!
